TRAVIS STRIKES AGAIN: NO MORE HEROES was previewed at six gaming conventions in 2018. These were GDC from March 19–23, PAX East from April 5–8, Hinode Power Japan from April 28–29, Japan Expo from July 5–8, Gamescom from August 21–25, PAX West from August 31–September 3 and BitSummit Roadshow Tokyo on September 19.
These previews had dialogue unique to each convention, with some even referencing past conventions. Some of the scripts from these specialized previews were better documented than others. The following script is for the preview of the game at PAX West 2018.
Script
- Hey, can I ask you something?
- Is this… the game world?
- Hey, wait!
- You can’t just walk on in here
- This is a forbidden area
- The entire area is completely sealed off
- Didn’t you hear the government’s evacuation order?
- Naw, man
- I’m a gamer, and I’m gonna clear this game
- I just gotta keep going up to play
- Stay outta my way
- You just don’t get it
- Do you have a permit?
- What the hell are you talking about?
- Of course I don’t
- You may drive him away by force
- Oh… that sounds fun
- Well, bring it on then
- Don’t underestimate the game world
- Transform!
- Huh?
- I’m not transforming…
- What a shame, Travis
- I was going to kill you in the tutorial
- But I still need more Karma
- You talk too damn much
- This is what sucks about games these days
- It takes too long to finally start playing
- Whatever – this is PAX West
- I’ll give you a special pass, just this once
- The journey begins
- Destroy this world, Travis Touchdown!
Travis proceeds through the level, encountering Dr. Juvenile.
Dr. Juvenile:
- I am… I am… I am…
- Dr. Juven… Juven… Juven… Venvenvenvenvenvenvenvenven
Travis proceeds further through the level, meeting the White Sheepman.
- Welcome, Travis Touchdown
- To the world of Electric Thunder Tiger 2
- I’m a white sheep
- I’m the Memory Manager here
- You’ve found the Death Ball
- And booted up the Death Drive Mk. II
- Your journey seems long, but is short
- The survivors at the end are desperate
- After turning from the main character
- To the ruler of this world, Triple Star has lost his reason to exist
- You should know more than anyone
- That the chains of freedom
- Are most painful of all
- That’s enough talk for now…
- We’ll meet again
Travis notices a ramen shop.
- Oh, a customer! Welcome, welcome!
- Gimme your best ramen
- Sure thing
- ⋯
- Here you go !
Travis continues on, passing the White Sheepman once again.
White Sheepman:
- Welcome, Travis Touchdown
- Your status as a hardcore gamer
- Is well-known even here
- Basically, you’re super immature
Travis proceeds to the boss encounter with Electro Triple Star.
- Visitor…
- I’ve been waiting
- My name is Electro Triple Star
- The main character of the amazing hit game Electric Thunder Tiger
- Triple Star! I know you!
- I played that for days at the arcade
- The industrial monster designs were badass
- And your Big Cannon was even more awesome!
- I see⋯
- Awesome, was it?
- You mean this?
Electro Triple Star launches his Big Cannon at Travis.
- Dick move, man
- This is PAX West
- The Nintendo booth is especially packed this year
- People are waiting for their turn to play
- So I cut your power down to kill you faster
- Well then you lose some, too
- If we’re fighting man-to-man
- We should do it fairly
- OK, I’ll give you that
- Let’s have a clean fight
- I’ll give you the Seattle special – 15 seconds
- Come at me as you like
- Haven’t done a boss fight in awhile
- This is gonna feel good!
- Oh you’ll feel something
The fighting continues.
- Visitor…
- You’re good
- You’re wasting your life as an assassin
- Live in the world of video games
- Games are supposed to be played
- Not lived
- Contact me anytime if you like
- I’d like you to be in my next game
- I’ll text you later
- Whatever – anyway, hurry up and change phase
- You’re not telling me this is the end, right?
- Listen up, Seattle gamers!
- Just for you guys, here’s Phase #2!
- Seriously…?
- This dude is batshit crazy
- I like it, Triple Star!
The fighting continues again.
- That felt damn good
- This isn’t over yet
- Travis!
- No way⋯
- Phase #3…?
- The Gamescom version ended here…
- But this is PAX West!
- I’ll give you a look at my final form
- Are you really going into Phase #3?!
- This shit is off the hook, Triple Star!
- The game hasn’t been released yet
- You’re mental, dude!
- I like to go all-out
- Bring it, Travis – bring it all!
- Tonight’s Triple Star is on fire
- Bitchin’!
The fighting continues once more, culminating with Electro Triple Star‘s defeat.
- Visitor, you’re strong…
- So this is true pain
- Legendary star of video games,
- Rest in peace, here in Seattle
- I love this town…
- But I have no intention of resting here
- I’m going to wander the Seattle night
- It’s time for the legend to rest
- The battle is done
- You’re right…
- Visitor, thank you for helping me to end this
- But I’ll find a place to die on my own
- It’s a full moon tonight
- Perfect for a stroll
- The Seattle night sky is beautiful
- Farewell, visitor
- Farewell, my hero
A final screen appears.
- THANK YOU FOR PLAYING
Notes
- Death and Drive no longer described Pac-Man and Mario in this version, instead delivering largely the same lines as in the published game.
- Several characters discussed PAX West, and Electro Triple Star even acknowledged Gamescom, the previous convention that hosted the preview.
- Bugxtra‘s name was corrected in speech bubbles in this version, previously being spelled BugStra.
- Electro Triple Star attacked Travis Touchdown before their battle began. This did not occur in the published game but it did take place in every other preview.
- This was the first verifiable preview where Electro Triple Star called his special attack the Big Cannon. Previous names for this move were the Hover Boost and Heavy Boost.
- This was the first preview in which Electro Triple Star had a third battle phase, allowing for more dialogue here than in earlier previews.
