This criminal investigation had a major role in the Silver Case series. In official records, it was carried out by the Regional Investigation Unit in 1979, and led to the capture of hitman Kamui Uehara. Special Agent Tetsugoro Kusabi achieved some fame as the arresting officer on the case, and went on to form the Self-Defense Unit. In reality, public records of the Silver Case were falsified. Kusabi revealed to Big Dick that he actually cornered and killed Uehara after arriving at the scene of several Techno and Civic faction leaders’ murders, and that the true event was kept between Daigo Natsume, Ryu Munakata, and himself. However, Kusabi later admitted this was also a lie. Uehara was never a hitman at all, and was instead a civilian who possessed immortality due to his silver eyes. The Techno and Civic faction leaders murdered him, then fought each other over control of his eyes. The last remaining leader removed his eyes and replaced them with Uehara‘s, laughing uncontrollably until Kusabi shot him to death.
While the Silver Case was resolved in 1979, the Kamui Case in 1999 renewed the Heinous Crimes Unit‘s interest in further Silver Case investigations. Under Shinji Kotobuki‘s orders, Kiyoshi Morikawa reopened the case.
