Black Knight

This character had a major role in BLACK KNIGHT SWORD. In his hotel room, a man named Grahame Wormwood hung himself before a large window overlooking the city. His suspended body began to sway, then dropped to the floor. Wormwood climbed to his feet and noticed a spirit hovering over an armoured body on the floor. The spirit caused a sword to materialize, embedded in the figure. Wormwood approached them and pulled the sword from the body. Moments later, the armour transferred itself to Wormwood, who let out a scream as he transformed into the Black Knight.

The Black Knight exited the hotel and fought his way through the city, now littered with hideous storybook creatures, with help from the Black Hellebore, the Sword Spirit he encountered in his hotel room. The Black Hellebore was locked in an eternal disagreement with her sister, a wicked princess called the White Hellebore, who was responsible for the legions of monsters being thrown at the Black Knight.

The Black Knight put down the White Hellebore‘s more powerful subjects, WolfsBane, Birthwort, and Spider Lily. He reached the White Hellebore‘s castle and defeated her in battle as well, however instead of yielding, she summoned a White Knight who killed the Black Knight with a single thrust of its sword.

The narrator playfully suggested there was more to the story, and began the tale again from the beginning. The Black Knight and the Black Hellebore retreaded their journey to the castle and defeated the White Hellebore. When the White Knight was summoned, the Black Knight dodged its attack, and they faced off, while the Black Hellebore and the White Hellebore fought overhead.

The Black Knight ultimately succeeded in defeating the White Knight. The Black Hellebore reverted him back to Grahame Wormwood and left him free to return home. Wormwood returned to his hotel room and immediately attempted to hang himself as he did moments before meeting the Black Hellebore, suggesting Wormwood was only a pawn in the unending cycle of conflict between the Hellebore sisters.
