Some characters have been shown to have a capacity for breaking the fourth wall, with some being more aware of this window than others.
- Tokio Morishima defended a poor joke made to Erika Yukawa by maintaining it was simply how he was written.
- Sumio Mondo delivered a monologue directly to players as he drove the highways of Lospass Island at the beginning of his assignment. He continued making overly aware comments throughout his stay, such as referencing the Nintendo DS anytime before using Catherine to jack-in. Despite his own understanding of the fourth wall, Mondo was astonished each time he came across somebody else with sensitivity to it. This contrasts with other characters such as those in NO MORE HEROES, who speak together frequently and openly about their games and those who play them.
- Sue Sding gained an awareness of the fourth wall in the 2008 version of Flower, Sun and Rain, where she explained to players how The Lospass: Official Guide Book could now be reviewed at any time, something that was not possible in the original version.
- Travis Touchdown appeared to be completely aware of the fourth wall and his relationship with the player.
- Sylvia Christel understood the fourth wall, but mostly brought it up sparingly when teasing the audience’s engagement, such as playfully shutting down the hopes for a NO MORE HEROES sequel and later defending the players who picked up the series starting with NO MORE HEROES 2: DESPERATE STRUGGLE, rather than the first game.
- Sumio told Kamikaze Wataru that he did not give him his real name but rather was echoing Sumio Kodai from The SILVERCASE. He went on to recommend the reader purchase the game and its sequel.
